GameManager

About the Program

GameManager is a program that is designed for Windows PC to automate the process of downloading game fan art, box art, screenshots, game info, official patches and organise the data in a functional and sleak interface, allowing you to browse, sort, filter, patch, mount and run your games.
It takes its influences from media center applications such as XBMC or Windows Media Center and looks much the same as such applications except rather than showing video it shows games and has hidden functionality specialy designed for games. The interface CoverView also takes its influences from the music management software itunes.

About the Project

It was orginally designed (V1) just to show my games and launch them with patch running functions, however the main problem was that all the artwork and patches had to be sourced manaually and the scanning system had to have each game manaually added to it. This caused it to be unsuitable for public release as I had no intension of maintaining a database of game entries. I carried on with the project and got the program functional but after a major code loss due to hard drive/computer failure I dropped the project. It was only a few years later I decieded to pick the project back up along with a full code rewrite(V2). By this time the foundations had been layed to make the project possible, online game databases had risen bringing along fan art, box art and all sorts of game info available from a single easy to access source(thegamesdb.net) and I had a knowledge of a slightly more advanced language allowing me to interface with the internet and the databases API. So I started the project in my holidays and after serveral months and 6 alpha(bug testing) releases I finally had a fully functioning GameManager (V2) and backed up this time to avoid more headaches!

After this release there was many people happy with the program and I decided to continue working on the project, adding in more important features and fixing ones that didn't quite work properly and at the end I had GameManager V3 named as such due to the greatly increased number of features. It is much more user friendly and looks much sleaker than the previous revision and overall works much better.
